Zodiac- The Little Zoo
While early astrologers studied the planets moving along their ecliptic path, they also noticed a set background of fixed stars. They divided this background (the ecliptic) into 12 equal sectors. Each sector was named after the star grouping seen in that sector. Taurus the bull, Aries the ram, etc. The sectors were then called Zodiac which is Greek for "little zoo".

The Signs and Their Energies
As noted earlier, the planets represent the energies that drive your physical, emotional mental and intuitional systems. Different signs channel energies into different behavior patterns which constitute our personality traits. Traits associated with each sign are-

Ruling Elements
Each sign belongs to a group of signs. These groups are the elements of fire, earth, water, and air. Early astrologers associated each Element with its temperament. Each group of signs is at 120 degree angles to each other.

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius- Movement, Physical, cheerful, spiritual, and vain.

Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn- Practical, materialistic, conservative, and inhibited.

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces- Emotional, sensitive, placid, and susceptible.

If you were born at sunrise, your Rising sign would be the same as your sun sign because that was the part of the zodiac rising over the horizon at sunrise.
