Job Stress & Burnout

Is stress on the job leading you to burnout? Sometimes we are so busy with work that we neglect to notice our own state of mind and body. Well, not until it is too late. Rather than risk self-damage, you can use some preventive measures to help you from going over the edge. Physical symptoms are often the easiest to recognize. Also, altered socialization patterns with family and friends can signal that your stress level needs attention. Ultimately, you may find burnout underneath all this camouflage.This could lead to job/position loss, strife with family, or explosive confrontations. Look at the questions that follow:

Answer each question either yes or no.
 

  1. Do you feel more irritable than usual? 
  1. Do you feel less patient than usual?
  1. Do you feel more fatigued than usual?
  1. Do you find it more difficult to fall asleep than usual?
  1. Do you bring your work home with you more often than usual?
  1. Do you find yourself behind in your work more often than usual?
  1. Do you make more mistakes at work than usual?
  1. Do you spend less time with family or friends than usual?
  1. Do you spend less time on hobbies/enjoyable activities than usual?
  1. Do you forget or misplace things more often than usual?
  1. Do you find yourself speaking up less often in meetings than usual?
  1. Do you find your work less fulfilling than usual?


*Total the number of  yes answers.
*If you answered yes to 2 or less then you’re ok.
*If you answered yes to 3 or more then you need a tune-up.
