There are several ways you can learn the Tarot. You can join Tarot communities such as the many at MSN (Microsoft Network) and dialog with others.
The message boards are quite active there. If you are a beginner then get a good instructional Tarot book like Tarot Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis.

There are about 150 titles with reviews or comments. As you become experienced you can
get intermediate and advanced books.
WHY YOU NEED A DECK
Much understanding in a Tarot reading comes from analyzing the images in the cards. These symbolic meanings within these images are the heart of the reading.
This part of the reading is what stimulates our unconscious mind. Many seekers want only answers to their questions and never bother to look at the cards.
Their question is answered, but they have received no insight.
To get the most benefit from the Tarot you need to look at the cards in each spread.
Thus you need a set of Tarot cards.
If you do not have a deck, then purchase one as soon as possible. You find them for around ten to fifteen dollars at most bookstores.
A good deck to begin with is the Rider-Waite deck.

SYMBOLS & CARD MEANINGS
Within the cards are many symbols with various meanings. For example, water can represent life, feelings and emotions. Birds can represent
spirituality and thoughts while animals can be symbols for instincts or aggression. Many Tarot books will contain lists of the meaning of symbols.
Another source of meanings can be found in dream books as they are largely based on archetypes. As with dreams, colors have significant meanings
in the Tarot. Black symbolizes death, mystery, destruction, rebirth, etc. Purity, life, truth etc. belong to the color white. The Tarot cards themselves have
specific meanings.
The 78 Tarot cards yield 156 representations. This results from the card's position after being dealt. The card may appear in an upright or
 
reversed (upside-down) position. Each position has different meanings attached to it. For example, let's look at the Queen of Swords (at right).
Some of the words used to describe the QOS in the upright position are independent, ambitious, determined, and aloof. In the reversed position
she can be described as an angry, vindictive, overpowering, manipulative, and lonely woman. Quite a difference! A good Tarot
book will provide you with descriptions for each of the card's positions. The symbolisms in the cards

READING EXAMPLES
YES/NO Reading
Let's begin with something simple- the Yes/No reading. You've learned so far that the cards can be either upright or reversed.
In this reading an upright card signals a yes or positive response while a reversed card means no. Two or three cards facing the same direction
will determine the answer e.g. if two cards are upright then the answer is yes. Now phrase a question so that a yes or no will answer the question.

It will allow you to enter a question and get a response. Look at the positions of the cards and the answer underneath. (disregard advertisements)
As you will see, the answer will be stated a little more eloquently than a simple yes or no. Try this a few times for practice.
3 Card Past-Present-Future Reading
This is another reading using three cards;however, now the card's symbols and meanings come into play. This reading
allows the seeker to ask a question and the cards will furnish information in three areas surrounding the question. Use your deck or

to address issues concerning relationships or finance. Two specific questions can be inserted into this reading.
A Tarot Compatability Reading . It's
good to know if a couple is headed down the right path and what obstacles may be coming up. Covers two people and you can ask for two questions to be answered too.
The very popular Celtic Cross can be used to explore specific questions and issues in your life. This 10 card spread presents a wide range of views on the matter
and addresses the past, present, and future. It also informs you about your inner traits such as attitudes, personality, hopes, fears etc. which
will influence the probable outcome if you continue on your current path. This reading requires at least hair and eye color from the seeker. These
are used to select the significator card for the reading. This card represents you in the reading and is a part of it. Up to three questions can be inserted into this reading.
Tarot Horoscope Spread is a little longer than the Celtic Cross. It is a 13 card spread with one card being the significator
(seeker) and the other 12 card positions matching the zodiac signs. It covers just about everything from past, present, future to health,
romance, career, spirituality, emotions etc. Specific questions can be answered through this spread as well. This reading provides a great amount of material which makes for a
